"Per Indiana State Chemist recommendations for high security type locking devices for all liquid and vapor manual shutoff valves directly on tank openings of each ammonia storage tank, the brand of locking device most often used, overwhelmingly, has been the Tanks-A-Lok® locking device. At the time of this correspondence and to my knowledge, no other high-security locking device secures the flange nuts/bolts of three-inch globe/angle valves as well as the hand-wheel of the valve. It is noteworthy that Indiana has experienced, upon at least one occasion, a large ammonia release through ammonia-theft due to tampering with said flange bolts.

With respect to nurse tanks, locking of all liquid valves is recommended given several considerations and is strictly voluntary by (lack of) adopted rule(s). With that understanding and at the time of this correspondence, I have personally witnessed that the brand of locking device most often used overwhelmingly, is the Tanks-A-Lok® locking device at those locations that have elected to lock their nurse tanks."
